Vintage Damascene Sunburst Pendant Beaded Necklace

Description

I designed this vintage Damascene sunburst pendant using a 1950’s repurposed vintage Spanish Damascene brooch. Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another, usually gold or silver, into a dark oxidized steel background to produce intricate patterns. This particular brooch depicts a beautiful carved mandala pattern.

I used repurposed rhinestones and teardrop shaped bits from vintage jewelry to create a sunburst pattern around the brooch. Then, I carefully embroidered glass seed beads onto the black felt background. On the back, I secured a piece of genuine leather and I waxed and burnished the edges.

For the necklace length I used gold corrugated vintage beads, and a variety of black vintage crystal beads in different shapes and sizes. I also used black glass seed beads, a repurposed gold vintage clasp and findings. The necklace is 65cm long, and the pendant is 6.7cm in diameter. Including the bail, the pendant height is 7.3cm
